After winning a research competition, five Unsri Palembang students were invited to Boston
"The five students won the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition Jamboree, so they were invited to Boston," said South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru in Palembang on Thursday.
The students met with the Governor of South Sumatra on that occasion, and the governor offered his full support for bringing honor to the province through their victory in the competition.
The five students—Ratu Tenny Leriva, Bella Stevanny, Vincent Scorsini, Aulia Ananditia Putri, and Peksi Saphira Miradalitadilepas—“At first
, when they met with me, I wasn’t entirely convinced because there hadn’t been a selection process like this before. But it turns out these students worked really hard. In fact, I can’t even imagine how many thousands of universities worldwide were narrowed down to these 300 selected ones—it’s extraordinary,” he said.
The governor added that what makes him even prouder is that among those 300, three universities from Indonesia made the cut, and one of them is Unsri. As governor, he is certainly proud of these students’ achievements.
However, he cautioned them against becoming complacent. He also urged them to remain independent students who are mindful of upholding the good name of their region and country, he said.
