Unsri Community Service: Helping MSMEs in Sungai Rebo Village Expand Their Market Reach.
Sriwijaya University’s Community Service Program Through an Entrepreneurship-Based Approach, This program aims to enhance creativity and innovation, promote economic self-reliance, hone management and risk-taking skills, expand business networks and opportunities, and boost competitiveness and productivity.
Furthermore, an entrepreneurial spirit can improve product quality, production efficiency, and marketing, thereby enabling businesses to compete at both the local and global levels. Consequently, it plays a role in creating new jobs, empowering communities, and alleviating poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic activities.
The community service team consists of Dr. Ir. Yulian Junaidi, M.Si. as chair, along with members Prof. Dr. Ir. Sriati, M.S., Dwi Wulan Sari, S.P., M.Si., Ph.D., and Muhammad Arbi, S.P., M.Sc., from the Faculty of Agriculture at Sriwijaya University. In addition to faculty members, this community service activity also involved students.
During the program, participants received direct guidance on the procedures for obtaining a Home Industry Production Permit (PIRT), preparing business legal documents, and designing product labels in accordance with BPOM and Department of Health regulations.
“Until now, many business owners have struggled to sell their products in modern markets because they lack PIRT permits and labels that meet standards. Through this guidance, we aim to help them ensure their products are legal, safe, and more competitive,” explained Dr. Yulian Junaidi, Chair of the Community Service Team.
Furthermore, this initiative serves as a concrete step toward strengthening the people-centered economy, which positions MSMEs as the primary driving force in rural economic development. By providing access to legal regulations and modern marketing channels, MSMEs are not only economically empowered but also encouraged to become self-reliant, thereby enhancing the economic independence of rural communities and reducing economic inequality. This approach aligns with the spirit of the people-centered economy, which emphasizes active community participation in managing resources and business opportunities in a fair and sustainable manner.
This initiative is part of Sriwijaya University’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
Through this program, it is hoped that MSMEs in Sungai Rebo Village can improve the competitiveness of their products, expand their markets through e-commerce, and revitalize the village production center as a hub for community economic activity. This also strengthens the foundation of a people-centered economy rooted in local wisdom and the socioeconomic sustainability of the village community.
