The Community Service Team (PPM) from the History Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Sriwijaya University held an outreach event on the heritage of the Sriwijaya Kingdom in South Sumatra (Sumsel).

The event, titled “Outreach on the Heritage of the Sriwijaya Kingdom in South Sumatra for High School Teachers in Muara Enim Regency,” was held at State Junior High School No. 2 in Muara Enim Regency.

The event was attended by 33 teachers who are members of the History Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP) in Muara Enim Regency on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

The event was led by Dr. L.R. Retno Susanti, M.Hum, as the head of the PPM team. She was assisted by team members consisting of Dr. Hudaidah, M.Pd, Muhammad Reza Pahlevi, M.Pd, and Risa Marta Yati, S.Pd., M.Hum.

The main objective of this outreach program was to enhance history teachers’ understanding of the importance of the Sriwijaya relics as part of Indonesia’s cultural and historical heritage, as well as to integrate this knowledge into the history curriculum in schools.

Sriwijaya is known as the largest maritime kingdom in the Indonesian archipelago and is considered the first national kingdom in Indonesia.

Sriwijaya’s historical sites are scattered across various regions of South Sumatra and serve as evidence of Sriwijaya’s past glory in the political, economic, social, cultural, and religious spheres.

The PPM team from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Sriwijaya University believes that disseminating information about these relics is crucial for fostering a sense of love and pride in the nation’s history among the younger generation.

This is especially true through the active role of teachers in history education.

This outreach event opened with remarks from Dr. Hudaidah, M.Pd, who also serves as Chair of the Social Studies Education Department at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Sriwijaya University.
