The evolving landscape of higher education today requires professors to fully embrace the Tri Dharma of Higher Education if they do not want to remain stagnant in their roles.

This is because the essence of a professor is not merely teaching; they also have a duty to serve the community and conduct research.

Conducting research is certainly no easy task for faculty members, especially when it comes to writing papers for international publication. This is precisely the focus of Sriwijaya University in enhancing the capabilities of its faculty.

Indeed, following the recent hosting of the ICECOS 2017 international conference, Unsri is now conducting a coaching clinic for faculty members to break down the process of writing research papers through to international publication. To support this initiative, Unsri has established the Publication, Management, and Services (PMS) Institute. This institution will assist in managing and publishing research papers produced by faculty members.

“So here, we teach faculty members how to write research papers for those who want to conduct research. Then, for those who already have papers, we teach them how to publish them,” said the Chair of Unsri’s PMS, Siti Nurmaini, through the Secretary of Unsri’s PMS, Firdaus, on Wednesday (August 23).

The system used by the PMS to implement this program involves holding seminars. Each year, more than 16 seminars are held to assist faculty members in conducting research.

“These seminars are organized by level. In fact, for those at the beginner level, we provide one-on-one assistance. We supervise them throughout the writing process,” she explained.

Established in 2016, PMS has been quite successful in increasing the number of papers published by Unsri faculty members. In 2016, at least 101 papers were published. In fact, as of July 2017, 106 papers had already been published.

“This means the publication trend has really increased,” he clarified.

Firdaus added that with the existence of the PMS, it is hoped that the number of papers published by Unsri faculty members will increase.

“Our faculty members come from both within and outside the country, and we hope this initiative will be a success. We’ve also seen a very positive response from faculty members toward this program. Participation is always overwhelming, but we’ve set a limit—only 40 people are allowed to attend this seminar. It’s open not just to Unsri faculty, but to everyone,” he concluded.

Firdaus noted that this coaching clinic was attended not only by Unsri faculty but also by faculty members from various other public and private universities.
