Unsri’s Faculty of Computer Science Introduces TeleOTIVA, an AI-Based Cervical Precancer Detection System, at the Tebing Gerinting Community Health Center
The Faculty of Computer Science at Sriwijaya University (FASILKOM Unsri) conducted a High-Impact Community Service (PkM) activity at the Tebing Gerinting Community Health Center, South Indralaya Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. This activity introduced the use of TeleOTIVA, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based cervical precancer detection system developed by a research team at Sriwijaya University.
A total of 30 medical personnel and 30 female volunteers from the Tebing Gerinting Community Health Center community participated in the event. Participants received training and took part in simulations on using the TeleOTIVA application as part of efforts to enhance their ability to perform early detection of precancerous cervical lesions.
The Head of the Tebing Gerinting Community Health Center (UPTD), Hj. Yanti, SKM., M.Kes., M.Si., expressed her appreciation for the event. According to her, TeleOTIVA offers convenience and speed in the screening process. Through the app, screening is conducted by taking images of the cervix, after which the system provides analysis results that can be obtained immediately.
Positive feedback was also shared by the Quality Manager at the Tebing Gerinting Community Health Center, Liddya Nitta, S.ST., M.T. She explained that, until now, some small lesions have sometimes been difficult to detect during manual examinations. The use of TeleOTIVA is expected to help medical staff interpret examination results more easily and quickly, including in identifying small abnormalities.
The Head of the Center of Excellence for Science and Technology in Higher Education (PUI-PT) for Artificial Intelligence–Medical (AIMed) at Unsri, Prof. Ir. Siti Nurmaini, M.T., Ph.D., also expressed her appreciation for the enthusiasm of the medical staff and volunteers who attended the technology demonstration.
She explained that this activity is part of the FASILKOM Unsri High-Impact Community Service (PkM) program, which supports the government’s efforts to eliminate cervical cancer. Through the introduction and simulation of TeleOTIVA’s use, this activity is expected to expand the utilization of artificial intelligence technology in supporting the early detection of precancerous cervical lesions within the public health care system.
This event represents a collaboration between universities and healthcare facilities to introduce medical technology innovations. FASILKOM Unsri showcased the technological developments from its research team, while medical personnel and volunteers had the opportunity to learn about and try out the system firsthand.
